Tweeting at the opera?

I tweeted a bit back that I was bored and was watching a baseball game recently. I could see the hot dog and beer sellers in the stands pushing their wares and an idea came to mind. What if those sellers were monitoring Twitter for a specific hash-tag and took orders from their clients? Sure, there are plenty of drinks and peanut sellers walking around the stands so there is little added benefit here but what about other items or services for which one needs to get out of their seat and go get in line, all while missing the game.

{Added: 115,23,1-5 meaning section 115, row 23 etc at the SanFran Giants game code 3212}

So, maybe getting the drinks like I placed in the tweet above might not be the best example, but what about the following add being placed on the overhead screens in the stadium:

2-4-1 clearance on Championship T-Shirts. Now just $29,95. Tweet your size, number and seat to #xyz123

A specific hash-tag would be needed which would only be “alive” for a short while; viral as things are in Twittersphere. Just think of the applications, hash-tags on the blimp. Oh wait, what about that plane which flies over those Spring Breakers? How about a hash-tag use on those opera tickets? Pre-ordering the snacks for the intermission. Oh yes, I need to get busy!

    I personally love this idea. I’d thought of something like this on Sunday at the Minnesota Twins game. Wouldn’t it be nice to either tweet at or send a text message to a vendor that would either bring it to you OR have it ready when you get to the stand. Similar to the electronic ordering at places like Chipotle or Noodles there would be a special express line.

    Nothing bugs me more than being stuck in a line in the concession stands when something big happens in the game.

      That is a cool idea Allen, an express line. I worry about it being Twitter and all that just anyone could be issuing orders from across the globe, sending delivery people everywhere. Good addition. Thanks

    Love the idea. Can we add tweets for the opera that appear overhead to tell people not to slowly open candy wrappers during beautiful arias? 😉

      Hey Melissa, candy at the opera? Must go along with white boots. I was talking with a friend here and their thought was that how horrible that one might tweet during an opera.
      Yes, I agree there needs to be some limit here. So let’s agree, no tweeting nor candy bars in the opera house.

    Hi Andrew,
    Nice punchy short post with an interesting message. Twitter and other Social Media sites are now part of the fabric of living — and ordering :)

    It seems logical that people will start using it to sell or buy faster and more conveniently.

    For me the issue is one of timing and civility. So if someone wants to buy tickets for a ballet via Twitter, that’s fine with me. Doing **during a ballet is not OK. Neither is talking, eating something noisy/smelly, or constantly running it and out of the theater and obstructing view.

    I will RT your post on Twitter for I think it says something well and simply.
